Which is the best: Costa, Starbucks, Caffe Nero or other?
I don't like Starbucks, but Caffe Nero is getting too strong for me in my old age and I'm looking for alternatives...

I currently favour costa and am drinking on of their flat whites right now. It's about the same as Starbucks but you get almost twice as much for your money. I prefer the Tatar to that of the pretentious place next door where the beans were organically grown in a hipsters beard etc

In London there are plenty of places that serve fantastic coffee without ever needing to go near a chain. Outside of London I'll take them all. The coffee is never the same anyway as they are constantly using different batches. Just make sure you tell them not to make it too hot, the big problem with making bad coffee in these places is the way they nuke the milk.

Costa is the better of Starbucks and Costa.
I don't get to taste the other chains as I usually only go to a chain in motorway services, and these two are the only ones that do the services I find myself in.
Costa uses some robusta (15%, I think) to give the coffee a bit of extra strength and, extra, er, robustness to the taste, like a proper Italian espresso mix.
I think it's a tragedy that Costa and Starbucks are now appearing in Italy and France, defeating proper coffee taste with trendiness.

Unless you live in chain central you should be able to find an independent coffee shop or van selling excellent coffee for half of a chain's price.

Starbucks by a mile if you buy coffee to make at home. The others sell only one type pre-ground as well, no comparison.
Starbucks from much experience pisses over anything else inc Monmouth! They have many varieties and grind it to suit your machine when you buy it.
All about quality, freshness and the right grind for your type of coffee maker.

Local hipster place does a decent flat white but its barely lukewarm. The hipster owner is all "that's how it's supposed to be, that's how the purists take it", I don't give a fuck, I don't want a lukewarm drink.
